1) Who is Richard Santoro?
I’m Richy, and I’m an entrepreneur. That feels good to say, because until recently I was scared to death to make that claim. “Entrepreneur” the word just felt so intimidating to me.
But then one day a friend asked me what my dream was. When I told him it was to create information products and help engage people and provide the best possible customer experience, he said, “You don’t have to want to be an entrepreneur. You are an entrepreneur; you just need to do what you enjoy and follow your passion.”
2) Why I love building businesses and developing products
That’s all it took for me to start planning my own business. Since then I have had my share of ups and downs, but one thing remains true for me, entrepreneurship is a state of mind. It’s how you conduct yourself and find solutions to a problems, take away peoples pains and get things done that others can’t.
Although the text book definition may state otherwise, I believe that modern entrepreneurship does not mean you have to own your own business or even work for yourself. I have done both in the past and on several occasions. I have also held corporate jobs as I do now, currently working for Dow Jones as a digital marketer which is privilege and passion.
Of course, that’s not the whole story. I have worked in sales, marketing and advertising most of my life for companies like Microsoft, McCann Erickson, and Haymarket Publishing to name a few.
3) A passion for media and online user experience
With an education and studies in multimedia and computer science, I was one of the early adopters of the internet and website design. Digital marketing and customer/user experience came almost naturally to me as a passion.
Nothing has come easy to me and I have worked hard for everything I have achieved, there are no short cuts in business, learning or success, but there are ways to cut out a lot of the fluff and find the quickest most direct route to victory.
4) Challenges in my professional field as a business developer and product marketer
As a professional marketer that’s one of things I am challenged with every day. How can I build engagement quickly, how can I grow sales fast and keep increasing them. I am sure these are challenges you are also faced with and perhaps that’s why you are here and reading this now.
5) Helping people to fulfill their business goals and achieve success
However you wound up here, it doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is that I believe the entrepreneurial spirit is a gift and can be harnessed by any company to empower their employees to success. And by any individual to empower themselves within their company!
Perhaps like me you are a marketer in big multinational organization, or perhaps you’re in a small to medium business, maybe you’re a single business owner or in a new startup. You might even be working from home! One way or another you need to generate sales and revenue for your business and you need to hone your marketing ability to do that.
6) Working for the man & working for yourself
Just like entrepreneurs with self owned business, we corporate entrepreneurs who work for a company, a business or have a boss, must also find ways to solve problems and build solutions that dive the business to success. A great product with no customers is a failed product and so marketing is everything.
The build it and they will come approach is nothing more than a pipe dream to failure. You need to know your niche, understand your market and build and develop products or a business around those people who will be your customers.
